ANGELIQUE VELEZ
"Love Raised Me Lipstick Saved Me."
Angelique Velez is a New York City based makeup artist and CEO & Founder of Breakups to Makeup, an accessory & apparel line for makeup enthusiasts. Launched in June of 2013, Breakups to Makeup spreads the message that makeup is more than just a simple product but also a form of art. Makeup serves as a creative outlet to those applying and livens the spirits of those wearing it. As a makeup artist for over a decade, Angelique recognized the importance of this creative outlet and wanted a way to educate others. Her most life-altering decisions and impactful experiences culminate into this artistic campaign intended to spread the message that makeup is far more than just mere face paint:
“As makeup artists, makeup is our form of art, it is our outlet and release. No matter what we are going through in life it’s the reason why we get out of bed. Makeup is a true form of art that let’s us not only express ourselves, but also makes others happy,” says Angelique. “Personally, going through a difficult time in my own life (ahem, a breakup), makeup literally saved me and served as my outlet to devote my time and energy. Many people don't understand how powerful makeup truly is and I wanted to spread that message in a quirky yet enlightening way, hence the birth of B2M!
I consider myself a misfit, a term a like to use for someone who doesn’t choose the “normal” route in life, just like many of you. I want to leave you with this quote, that has helped me accept who I am and that drives me to move forward whenever I am challenged or want to give up. Thank you all for your unconditional support! “Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~Steve Jobs
